My Mac laptop display is damaged -
what do I do? Getting your Mac display damaged is a nightmare
for every Mac user. Screen usually breaks after a fall, which
is even more common on new Unibody MacBook Pro models where
the glass surface reaches the very edge of the display
enclosure. Another cause could be the pressure caused by a hit
or a heavy object. Unfortunately, physically damaged displays
cannot be repaired and your only option is a complete
replacement of the display. If you have an extended Apple
warranty (AppleCare) you are in luck - Apple will replace the
damaged display at no cost. If not however, you have a number
of options. The most obvious one is to get it repaired by the
Apple Service centre. This can get pricey because Apple will
not just replace the damaged display - it will also replace
complete laptop lid, as both the display and the lid form a
single service part. This way you are paying for something
that you don't necessarily need.
Fortunately there are alternatives
such as specialized online shops that sell Mac parts, where
you can find the display in good working order for a fraction
of the cost. Also it is worth checking Ebay - usually there
are always a number of sellers offering MacBook displays and
parts. If you go this route you will either have to find a
skilled tech to replace the display for you or follow the
instructions provided online that will guide you through the
whole cracked
laptop screen mac ordeal/process. The only thing you will
need are suitable tools, time and a bit of patience and skill.
At the end, it will be worth it! If you don't feel comfortable
doing it yourself, contact computer repair shops and ask them
for a quote - any PC repair shop should be able to perform
this repair on a Mac. |
